Marshall’s Arm
Celebrating its 25 year as a Local Nature Reserve
1st and 2nd September 2023
On Friday night the bats made a magnificent ”fly past”. The dry, windless and warm evening made for perfect conditions, common pipistrelles, soprano pipistrelles, noctules and a rare Daubenton's bat put on quite a show for the 50 people who attended.
Saturday saw the mammal release of many fat and healthy mice and bank voles. This was followed by pond dipping, “shake a tree” to reveal the insects lurking in the old oak and searching for galls then printing with the gall ink. The Hapa Zome activity involved printing with leaves and flowers on to canvas. While people picnicked, the Marshall’s Arm Choir were in good voice singing songs based on the local history.
The anniversary was marked by the unveiling of the Art installation. Cllrs Patricia Parkes and Phil Herbert did the honours as they had supported this via funding from their member’s grants. During the sunny afternoon we had the opportunity to gently exercise during a Tripudio session.
A very enjoyable day ended with bird and butterfly walks.
